Here’s a recent shoot I did with Simon Hadler and Annelie from Storm models.

The products used were Chanel Pro Lumiere foundation, Derma colour concealer, Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer, a mix of Bobbi Brown lipsticks and MAC Grape pigment on the eyes (which I thought photographed really nicely with a good shine).

I finished the eyes with MAC smoulder eyeliner and Dior show mascara.

The stars were dressed to impress on the red carpet but I can never see past the make up and here’s why-

Mamma mia, those lips. She looks smoking hot. A great shade on her works well with her Atelier Versace dress! Also rocking a 10 out of 10 on the red carpet with amazing red lips to top off an amazing red was Dianna Agron!  Too “matchy” for some with her amazing red Giles Deacon dress but I think it works.

A fail for me was Claire Danes. I don’t know why, I love red lips taking focus against monochrome, I love red lips on blondes but this could have been edgier in a deeper matte red. The hair looks really prissy I think a really sleek pony tail would of looked better…

Very happy to have been asked to do the make up for Slink Magazine’s latest cover and fashion spread.

Just in time for the party season I prepped our 3 model’s winter skin with Dermalogica skin care. The make up (all products MAC and MAC Pro) was all about disco ball eyes and complementary lips!

I created large emerald glitter flicks of Bara our blonde bombshell from Milk Management.

Smoky saphire sparkle was used to compliment the sultry brown eyes of  Louise O’Reilly   @Excell/Models1.

…And last but by no means least! To glitz up the grown up, elegant styles Slink’s rather talented editor Rivkie Baum created on Laura G at Hughes Models I created an embelished smoky look with black and emerald glitter.

We had a amazing team- Dave Wise was the photographer, Oscar Alexander Lundberg created editorial hair styles with a touch of vintage glam and special thanks to Nadia Blanco who assisted me as well as created the sparkly nails.

I’m rather excited about the impending release of Hervana blush by Benefit!

Benefit (in my humble opinion) is at the forefront when it comes to cheeks!

Bronzer, blush and then bring on the highlighter!

Benefit has gorgeous cult goodies like the Hoola blusher, High Beam highlighter and a new firm favourite of mine Bella Bamba a 3d face powder perfect for sculpting some volume even into my empty cheek area!

This February sees the launch of Hervana, a new blush from Benefit Cosmetics priced at £23.50. The signature box blush contains four shades: shell, peach, rose and berry, which blend together to give a flushed effect.
I cant wait to give this new addition a whirl! 

This month male cosmetics and beauty brand EVOLUTIONMAN are introducing a range of guy polishes.

They come in a range of colours and textures- Pure Matte, Pure Bling, Stand Out (a metallic charcoal shade), Pavement, a concrete-looking polish (that one sounds cool) and  Alter Ego, a copper shade.

The polishes are set to roll out soon and I wondered what do we think of the new breed of metro-sexual men ladies?  

Encroaching on our dressing table space with their guy liner, small GHD’s and now Pure Bling polish!!!!

I have done jobs before where a man will come over to me and ask for a bit of guy-liner,  man-scara I like how putting a male prefix infront of make up makes it masculine grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

“EVOLUTIONMAN” is a great company name.

Maybe I am just not up with the times. I like a man to take care of himself for sure! A big turn on is a man with style and what girl isn’t going to appreciate some rock hard abbs (although I would take a more cuddly belly any day over protein-shake-farts!) A little cleanse, tone and moisturise wouldn’t go amiss either.

I don’t think its fair to say men shouldn’t wear make up, it should be a basic human right to be able to cover up a heinous, pulsating spot ewww!

….But-  unless he’s Jared Leto and he’s touring (even in this case I’d say black, chipped and sparkle free is about my limit!….) I do find nail polish on men ÜBER CREEPY!

You wont see this product in my husbands xmas stocking.

Sorry for a lack of posts over the weekend I was CRAZZZZZZZY busy all over Halloween creating cats, bats, vampires, witches even a Michael Jackson Thriller look for my better half! Ha hahahah!

I love Halloween but am truly Halloweened-out so I wanted to share a picture that made me feel warm, fluffy and fuzzy which is why I posted this quick bump painting I did from a while ago now.
It makes me feel broody and think of spring even though its getting dark at 5.30 boooo!

Eyes

I began by prepping the eyes and lips with Liz Earle Super Skin Eye and Lip Treatment and then began creating the eyes. I always begin with the eyes on a smoky look, this way after I have finished the eyes I can wipe away any powder drop before applying my base.

I painted a strong cat shape with the Laura Mercier Satin Creme Colour using an eyeshadow brush. Blend well, don’t be afraid to use clean finger tips to pat and smudge in creams, it works brilliantly.

I then highlighted the whole lid with the RMK ingenious Jelly shadow and then created a ”hotspot” to dramatise the metalic shine in the centre of the lid with the shiny gold RMK Ingenious powder Eyeshadow. I can’t express enough how much I love these 2 RMK colours…

I then HEAVILY lined the upper and lower water lines in MAC’s Smoulder Eye Kohl, smudging slightly into the lash line.

After a layer of Mascara apply the MAC false lashes (style 33) on the top AND bottom lash line. This is what creates the vampy/edgyness to the look.

Base

Now the eyes are finished wipe away any powder drop so you have a completely clean base. 

I applied the MAC Matte instead of a moisturiser, this works really well on photo shoots as it means you should not get shine breaking through and will not need to apply powder which leads to a duller finish.

Now apply the Match Master foundation I actually used to shades 1 as an all over tone and a shade lighter under the eyes and along the tops of the cheek bones- this was done to add contour to the cheeks for photographic purposes.

I applied foundation over the lips and brows, this gives an edgy, fashion finish to the look.   

Finish by contouring the hollows of the cheeks lightly with the Guerlain bronzer.

Errrrr how amazing is this?????????
Contrary to all the exciting Halloween make up being produced at the moment Dermablend have done the opposite, turning ghoulish looking Zombie boy into a blank canvas! Dermablend Cosmetics have very successfully concealed all of  the skeletal tattoos on male model and muse Zombie Boy aka Rick Genest.

You might recognize this mans amazing body art from Lady Gaga’s video spot “Born this way” or Mugler’s campaign last year. 

It took three makeup artists for the one day shoot to cover Rico. During the transformation approximately 4 tubes of Dermablend Leg and Body Cover were used along with Leg and Body Tattoo Primer and Original Loose Setting Powder. During the shoot, Rico shared stories about his new fame and being asked to appear at children’s birthday parties. The video was shot in one take with only one opportunity for Rico to reveal his true face.
This genius collaboration demonstrates brilliantly how carefull application of Dermablend can conceal pretty much anything. I have Dermablend concealers in my own kit and am always recommending them to clients they are the best cover I have found.
The video shows the array of products used in order to conceal his whole body of artwork.

Cover up make up takes a huge amount of skill, it’s not simply a case of choosing one colour to conceal with you have to correct tattoo tones to stop them coming through the concealer you also have to use correct TONES! Notice the S we are not 1 colour we are made up of lots of tones and for a realistic finish this must be well accounted for.
